After being away for some years, we thought it was time again to retrain students on skills outside the academic arena. A carnival seems to fit our scope of learning and the idea was subsequently put on the table.
The carnival was aimed at developing soft skills and at the same time to think “Big” and connect themselves with corporate bodies and sponsors. The journey was a steep learning curve and we could see the struggle to involve the private sector; us being an International School and not too convinced we needed the help. We were also aiming at donating to an orphanage and the dialysis centre as part of our CSR effort. In your comfort, remember the many who are not so fortunate.
Well, if there is a will, there is a way. We resorted to other forms of help in terms of goods and products and we must admit that stakeholders rose up to the occasion. Parents were generous in their contributions; baked, cooked, donated monies, and helped us through. Special thanks to fathers and mothers for chipping in and rising up. Your good sense of generosity will surely be of great impact on your growing children.
Besides the sales of goods and services, we also staged a Talent Show to bring out the innate talents and though simple, it gave the children a chance to perform, dance, sing and hit the drums! Ethan Appleton took the primary trophy and Alexandria Ng won the secondary trophy to the delight of their supportive parents.
We were grateful to Reverend Eu, the senior pastor of FGT, Subang for gracing the opening ceremony on the beautiful morning. The weather was perfectly designed for the carnival and we give thanks to God for divine favour.
Teachers, students and parents went all out to give their best and it was a whopping success as we collected enough funds to donate to the orphanage, KIDs and also the FGT Dialysis Centre. We will also be appreciating our responsive students in a subsidised field trip in the next Semester. This is to reinforce the purpose of our teaching; you give and receive.
The beautiful photos are good stories for the day and once again, we were happy that the event brought out the good, bad and ugly in us but ultimately, the good surpasses everything else. To God be the glory indeed.
Another Carnival for the future? we will see.
